Burgoo

Gâteau à la chataîgne : le Burgou

Le Burgou est un gâteau artisanal composé de sucre, de beurre et de châtaigne, le tout décoré d’une feuille de châtaignier. Sa conservation est optimale, c’est donc un excellent gâteau de voyage.

Le « Burgou » vient du nom d’un bandit de grands chemins qui vivait dans la région et qui volait aux riches pour donner aux pauvres au 17ème siècle. Aujourd’hui il est vendu avec un petit livret racontant la légende du Vidocq limousin, et listant les 22 artisans pâtissiers qui le fabriquent.

The only way that I have ever eaten mutton and enjoyed it was in a dish called Burghoo in Kentucky. Other tyhan that...mutton is just TOO strong!

Burgoo

Burgoo to Burnt

Burgoo
(Bur"goo) n. [Prov. E. burgood yeast, perh. fr. W. burym yeast + cawl cabbage, gruel.] A kind of oatmeal pudding, or thick gruel, used by seamen. [Written also burgout.]

Burgrass

Burgundy

2. A richly flavored wine, mostly red, made in Burgundy, France.

Burgundy pitch, a resinous substance prepared from the exudation of the Norway spruce (Abies excelsa) by melting in hot water and straining through cloth. The genuine Burgundy pitch, supposed to have been first prepared in Burgundy, is rare, but there are many imitations. It has a yellowish brown color, is translucent and hard, but viscous. It is used in medicinal plasters.

Burgoo

Kentucky Burgoo

Ingredients:

Squirrels - 1 doz.to each 100 gals.
600 lbs. lean soup meat (no fat, no bacon)
200 lbs. fat hens, plucked
2,000 lbs. potatoes, peeled and diced
200 lbs. onion, peeled and diced
5 bushels cabbage, chopped
60 lbs. tomatoes, deskinned & chopped
24 lbs. tomatoes - pureed
24 lbs. corn, cut from cob
Red pepper and salt to taste and Worcestershire by the pint

Directions:

Mix the ingredients, a little at a time and cook coutdoors in huge iron kettles over wood for 20 hour, stirring constantly.

Makes 1200 gallons of stew

Burgoo

This is particularly true of Diether's character, who starts off as a buffoon, wolfing down food at a party like a squirrel and even wrapping up some for himself to eat at home. This is an "entertaining" introduction for his character, but it also makes it difficult for viewers to take him seriously later in the film.
